Professor Jörg R. Mühlbacher heads the FIM (Institute for Information Processing and Microprocessor Technology, founded in 1983 by J. R. Mühlbacher) at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) of Linz. His interests include operating systems, computer networks, algorithms and datastructures, CS-related applications of graph- and numbertheory. Currently he is engaged in security issues and supervises the master study (MSc) "Computer Networks and Security" at JKU.

He also refers to a long-term experience in e-learning and has developed course material, offered by the WeLearn platform, which is a smart and user-friendly e-learning/e-teaching framework, which also provides tools for developing teachware.

J.R. Mühlbacher "finished" his education by a PhD in Mathematics (Algorithmic Graph Theory) at the University of Vienna in 1969. However, during his studies he worked as a software engineer, called "Programmer" in these days. Then he was employed at JKU, Austria (Habilitation 1973). In that time CS did not exist as an acknowledged science yet. In 1973 he was elected as Professor (C3) at University of Dortmund, Germany, and in 1976 he moved back to JKU as Full Professor.

He was visiting professor at the University of Zürich and St. Gallen (Switzerland), Reading (UK), Granada (Spain) - teaching on Data Structures, Operating Systems, Networks.
He is a member of several editorial boards of scientific CS-Journals and member of the OOE-RFT (Rat für Forschung und Technologie).
